Businesses will be able to accept Apple Pay and other contactless payments using the iPhone, although the feature is currently only available in the United States.
Apple has already made the decision to turn the iPhone into a ‘contactless’ dataphone and will start doing so in the United States. It will do so through Tap to Pay, the new feature that converts the device into POS (Point of Sale Terminal), allowing you to accept contactless payments without the need for additional hardware or payment terminal.
Small merchants to large businesses will be able to use their iPhone to securely and seamlessly accept payments from Apple Pay and other contactless digital wallets. Tap to Pay will be integrated into iOS applications and will offer a payment method to its business customers, with Stripe being the first payment company to offer the Tap to Pay service.

Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet Jennifer Bailey recently reported that in collaboration with payment platforms, app developers and payment networks, “we’re making it easier than ever for businesses of all sizes, from individual entrepreneurs to large retailers, seamlessly accept contactless payments and continue to grow your business.”
In addition, Bailey added that “Tap to Pay on iPhone will give businesses a safe, private and easy way to accept contactless payments and unlock new payment experiences using the power, security and convenience of iPhone.”
The iOS application that will allow you to accept contactless payments will be compatible with iPhone XS or later devices. The mechanism will be the one we know, it will simply be necessary to bring the credit card, the Apple Pay device or another contactless payment method to the iPhone -which will now work as a dataphone- and the payment will be made using NFC technology.

Apple focuses on security and privacy in the design and development of its payment methods. Tap to Pay on iPhone protects customer payment details using the same technology as Apple Pay.
